A mystery. A girl. A detective skeleton. What's not to like?

ndy, D. (2007) Skulduggery Pleasant. New York, NY: Harper Collins Publishers
Gordon Edgley was a famous writer.  I say was because this book begins with his death.  At the funeral his niece, Stephanie, notices a strange man all bundled up, even though the weather wasn’t particularly cold. Later, Stephanie is surprised to learn that Gordon has named her the beneficiary of his will, inheriting his house and his large amount of wealth.  The surprises continue when a stranger breaks into her new house and attacks her.  She is saved by the strange man from the funeral, only he isn’t quite a man.  He’s a skeleton.  His name is Skulduggery Pleasant and he introduces her to a world beneath the world;  A world of magic, danger, and intrigue.
There is something quite fun about a fire throwing skeleton detective.  Right off the bat, this book gets you hooked.  The characters are likable and interesting, and the story is chock full of adventure.  A very fun read!
