Crossing over

Alexander, K (2014) The Crossover. New York, NY: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Josh, AKA Filthy McNasty, Is a phenom on the basketball court.  When paired with his twin brother, they’re practically unstoppable.  A new girl shows up at school, and his brother is absolutely smitten.  Now he doesn’t have any time for hanging with his brother.  To top it off, his father’s health may be failing.  It’s a lot for one guy to handle.
The way this story is written is really quite neat.  It’s narrative poetry.  Though it is a story being told, each page is a different poem told from Filthy’s perspective.  It’s a great read that deals with some common issues a middle schooler might face, as well as some harder ones.
